October in 2nd Class

Oct 16, 2026

It has been a very exciting few weeks in 2nd Class! Through hands-on activities, the children have learned about the human skeleton and the different bones in their bodies, been introduced to the ukulele, explored the artwork of famous pop artist Andy Warhol and discovered the different jobs in their locality.

The Skeleton

Focus: How does our body work? – The Skeleton.

The children have been learning all about the skeleton this month! We discussed how the skeleton gives our bodies shape, supports us and helps us to move. They also discovered that adults have 206 bones in their bodies! The children explored the names and functions of different bones, including the femur, tibia, spine, ribs and radius. The highlight of this topic was definitely getting to create their own skeletons, helping them to learn the names of the different bones and where they are located in our bodies.

Andy Warhol

Focus: Making Prints Using Nature

The children have been learning all about the famous pop artist Andy Warhol and how he used everyday objects to create colourful artwork and prints. The children created their very own artwork inspired by Andy Warhol, incorporating an autumn theme. First, they chose four colours and painted each square a different colour. They then collected autumn leaves, painted them and pressed them onto the squares to create their own colourful leaf prints!

The Ukulele

Focus: Exploring Different Chords and Playing Songs on the Ukulele

The children have been learning how to play the ukulele during their music lessons this month and have really been enjoying it! They have learnt how to play the chords Am, C and F and are already looking forward to learning more. They have also been practising playing along to the song “Thunder” and are really starting to sound like little musicians! We look forward to developing our ukulele skills and learning lots of new songs over the next few months!

Emerald Park

Jobs in Our Locality

Focus: Exploring Different Jobs in Our Locality

The children have been learning all about the different jobs in their locality. As part of this topic, they worked in groups to create their very own projects based on Emerald Park. They began by planning their projects before working together to bring their ideas to life, developing their teamwork and communication skills along the way. Each group then had the opportunity to present their finished project to the class. The children really enjoyed learning all about Emerald Park, especially getting to experience some of its roller coasters by watching videos and pretending they were on the rides themselves!
