School Sport
Daily Mile
Every class in the school takes part in the Daily Mile throughout the week. The children really enjoy getting outside for a breath of fresh air and running a few laps around the school. It gives them a break from the busy school day and
External Coaches
Our school is very fortunate to have wonderful external coaches who come throughout the year to upskill the children in a variety of Sports. Junior Infants – 4th Class engage in two 5 week blocks of GAA football and hurling sessions during the year. 3rd-6th Class play tag rugby with our super coach in Term 1. 3rd, 4th and 6th Class take part in a 5 week block of badminton in Term 3, which always proves to be a big hit! We are so lucky to have such dedicated and enthusiastic external coaches that come to teach the children in our school every year.
GAA
Our school is heavily involved in GAA. Boys and Girls from 5th and 6th class take part in weekly training supported by our dedicated teaching staff.
For the last few years our school has entered boys and girls teams into the Fingal League and the Cumann na mBunscoil.
All the children show great enthusiasm and commitment which has led to our teams reaching finals in both the girls and boys leagues.
In 2024 our boy’s team reached the Cumann na mBunscol final for our 3rd year in a row in October. They played a spectacular match and showed wonderful sportsmanship and team spirit. They brought home the trophy to everyone’s delight!

Basketball
5th & 6th Class children take part in a basketball league every year with schools in Meath. In 2024, the boys team won! It was the first ever sports event we won in the school and everyone was delighted. Our coaches are extremely dedicated and passionate about basketball. The boys and girls practise during lunch time and Golden Time. They also play matches during yard time as we have wonderful equipment for the children to utilise. We are looking forward to building our basketball skills this year and for many years to come!
Soccer
The children in Ashbourne ETNS are very passionate about soccer! We are so lucky to have an astro pitch on our school grounds. The children in 5th & 6th Class get to play soccer matches every day during yard time. This is such a fantastic facility for us to have and we feel incredibly lucky. Our school takes part in a soccer blitz every March and always has a great time participating.
