Term 2 in Katie’s 4th Class

Apr 23, 2026

What a busy few months it has been in Katie’s 4th Class!

Japan was an area of focus for our learning for an entire month. ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo was the novel we studied in English lessons. The class loved applying different reading comprehension strategies as we read. In Visual Arts the children created beautiful Notan art where they focused on exploring asymmetry and symmetry in both everyday life and in various pieces of art work. We also studied the work of the contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. The boys and girls made striking skateboard art using Murakami’s work as inspiration.

In celebration of World Book Day, we learned about the author David O’Connell who writes the book series ‘Beastie Bros’. We were very lucky as we had the opportunity to attend an online talk with the author and completed a fun live ‘draw along’ with David O’Connell himself!

As part of our Visual Arts lessons, the children learned how to sew. They learned a variety of different sewing skills, including how to complete a running stitch, a backstitch and how to sew on a button. The class created lovely pictures to demonstrate their new skills.

Back in September we planted daffodil bulbs in the school garden. We were delighted to see all of the flowers in full bloom in March! The boys and girls were very excited to bring their daffodils home to show their families.

Bhí go leor spórt and spraoi againn ag glacadh páirt i Seachtain na Gaeilge i mí Márta. We took part in the school comórtas ealaíne, learned our frása an lae and had visits from different speakers and musicians. One of the highlights of the week though has to be the céilí! We had so much fun in the halla performing different dances with our friends. We are already looking forward to taking part in Seachtain na Gaeilge again next year!

Well done to all of the boys and girls in Katie’s 4th Class for all of their hard work in Term 2!
