A busy January in Jane’s first class!

Feb 4, 2025

January was an exciting month of learning in our class. As we settled back into school after the winter break we explored many topics that we would like to share!  In maths, we practiced tens and units using whiteboards, cubes, and the 100 square. We used cubes to build numbers and see how many tens and units they have.  These activities made learning place value fun and hands-on. By practicing with different resources, we got better at reading, writing, and understanding numbers, helping us improve our math skills in a fun way!

In January, we learned about adjectives! We used them to make our writing more interesting by describing colours, sizes, shapes, and people. We practiced by looking at objects/places and thinking of words to describe them, like “soft teddy,” “busy city,” or “shiny star.” We also had fun making adjectives with magnetic letters, building words like “beautiful”, “bright”, “rich” and “clean”.

We also learned all about Antarctica. We discovered how animals like penguins, seals, and whales survive in the freezing temperatures. We also learned that very few people live in Antarctica, but scientists go there to study the climate and animals. We enjoyed looking at pictures, watching videos, and talking about this amazing continent. We created a project on what we have learned so far about the Arctic.

Finally, we began learning about the Chinese New Year. We learned that this year is the year of the Snake. We created lovely artwork to showcase for this celebration!
