Catch up with Amy’s 3rd Class

Dec 12, 2025

The children in 3rd Class have been learning the ukulele for the past six weeks and are making fantastic progress. We have been working very hard and can now confidently name the different parts of the ukulele, use a variety of strumming techniques, and play the chords C major and A minor. Their confidence is growing each week as they practice new skills and play together as a group. We are also learning to keep a steady rhythm and listen carefully to one another as they perform. It is great to see their enthusiasm and developing musical talents!

Our Class have also been exploring a range of art skills over the past few weeks and have produced some wonderful work. We have been learning about key art elements such as colour, tone, line and pattern and have enjoyed experimenting with these in our own creations. With line we created fun and colourful rockets blasting into space and constructed some abstract line sculptures. When studying pattern we were inspired by the clothing of the Maasai tribe in Kenya and the work of Helen Galler to create some beautiful artwork.

As part of our Artist of the Month study, the class learned about Pablo Picasso and the Cubist style, discussing how shapes and perspectives can be used in imaginative ways. To put this into practice, the children created their own Cubism-inspired snowmen, showing great creativity and confidence in trying something new. We are very proud of their effort, imagination, and growing appreciation for art!
