January was a very busy and exciting month in First Class as we explored the theme of weather across many subjects.
In Geography, Science, and Gaeilge, we learned all about different types of weather and how it affects our world. We became junior meteorologists and created our own Réamhaisnéis na hAimsire (weather forecasts) as Gaeilge. The class really enjoyed presenting their forecasts and using lots of new Irish vocabulary to describe the weather.
As part of our Geography work, we made our own rain gauges to measure how much rain fell during the month. We carefully recorded the rainfall each day and can confidently report that January was a very rainy month!
In History and Geography, we learned about the famous Irish explorer Tom Crean and his incredible adventures in Antarctica. We learned all about Antarctica, including its icy landscape, extreme weather, and the animals that live there. The children completed wonderful projects all about Antarctica.
To finish off our learning, we brought Antarctica into the classroom during Art, where we made fantastic penguin puppets inspired by the wildlife of the region. The classroom was full of penguins by the end of the week!
