The boys and girls in Claire’s 4th class had a great time participating in the Junior Achievement Ireland programme under the guidance of Tomás Millar. The Junior Achievement Programme works with volunteers from the local community delivering content complimentary to the formal curriculum while sharing their experiences and expertise in certain areas with the students. The programme aims to inspire and empower students to believe in themselves and show them the difference they can make in the world. The lessons were fun, hands on and gave the students a taste of what the world of business is all about.
The boys and girls took part in the AIB “It’s my business!” programme where they experienced the initial steps necessary to start their own business. The children explored the ideas of employability and entrepreneurship in creating their own business model. They explored how to identify their own entrepreneurial characteristics, innovation and market research in creating their own start-up business. At the end of the process the students pitched their ideas to “funders” in a Dragons Den style presentation.
The class loved the experience and enjoyed learning about the necessary steps and hard work it takes in setting up a business. The students came up with 4 different impressive products including a new nutritious energy bar, a hamster cage for pets with too much energy, a trendy clothing line for all kinds of weather and a sports headband that can track your skills and progress. 4th class are extremely grateful to Tomás for delivering the programme in such a fun and informative way.
